So the past week from vacationing and playing with my machine I inadvertandly destoyed the apple installed OpenLDAP, but I wanted to get it back to give it a try. For some crazy reason, I thought installing the BasePackage.pkg from the leopard install would bring it back to life.

Boy what an idiot I was.

After having basically killed the machine, I figured this would be the perfect test of time machine. So as I didn’t have much to lose should I totally botch the rebuild, I reformatted, installed the Leopard Disc and did a restore via Time Machine (in the Utilities Menu)

2.4 Hours later – back up, before I left for vacation. Just had to restore the mySQL files manually (via time machine) to get my blogs back.

Outside of the time it took for 30GBs, it worked like a champ.
